Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Northern Java, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A lovely example of a kris (keris), a traditional Indonesian ceremonial sword. The handle is hand-carved from areng wood and exhibits a rounded head and an accordion-style body. A small cupric-iron separation ring rests between the handle and the projecting blade guard and displays six fuchsia-hued glass cabochons. The blade has a gorgeous serpentine profile with sharpened edges, a pointed tip, and waves of lighter material undulating throughout. The wooden scabbard is composed of multiple conjoined pieces carved from caramel and espresso-hued wood. Size: 26" L x 7.25" W (66 cm x 18.4 cm); length of blade: 16.875" L (42.9 cm).

Condition
Minor nicks to blade, handle, and sheath, with some separation and light adhesive residue along wooden sheath panels, and light oxidation to blade. Great patina to wooden components, and light earthen deposits throughout.
