Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid-20th century CE. A lovely kris (keris), a personal ceremonial sword. The hand-carved wooden handle features a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and a hemispherical copper spacer cap is adorned with several faceted stones. The forged-carbon-steel blade has a straight profile with a projecting shoulder guard and strands of lighter nickel woven throughout. The wooden sheath exhibits gorgeous caramel and coffee hues and features a wide guard protector, a separately attached blade housing, and a removable brass jacket adorned with dense foliate motifs in repousse. Size (w/ sheath): 7" W x 18.4" H (17.8 cm x 46.7 cm); length of blade: 14.25" L (36.2 cm).

Condition
Brass sheath jacket is removable. Wooden blade housing reattached to guard protector, with light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to blade, sheath, and jacket, with softening to some finer details on sheath jacket, and darkening to natural jacket color. Light earthen deposits and fine patina throughout.
