Nine Legal Documents and Certificates From the 18th and 19th Century, Most Indentures
A great collection of early legal documents and certificates, most being from Norfolk and other areas in Virginia. See below for further details of items enclosed:
1. 1p, measuring 7.5" x 4.75", Norfolk, Virginia, dated March 17, 1790. To Messers Stone, Hunter & Co., Bills of Campbell and Wheeler, totaling $2900.
2. 1p, measuring 10.75" x 6.25", Norfolk, Virginia, dated September 7, 1803. Registration of Naturalization of John Peter Andre as a citizen of the United States.
3. 2pp of a bifolium, measuring 7.5" x 12.5", Norfolk, Virginia, dated January 1, 1799. Indenture between John G. Marsden and William Johnston.
4. 1p, measuring 15.75" x 11.5", Philadelphia, dated February 15, 1818. Written in Latin. A Philadelphia Medical Society certificate awarded to S. Baldwin, a junior partner. Signed "N. Chapman" as President. Blue ribbon attached at the bottom.
5. 1p, measuring 16.5" x 13", Princess Anne County, Virginia, dated January 2, 1771. Indenture between Johnson Nimmo and Thomas Talbot. Repaired with archival backing.
6. 1p, measuring 13" x 12.75", Princess Anne County, Virginia, dated July 16, 1767. Indenture between Francis and Anne Moore, Richard and Frances Fraizer, and Captain Thomas Talbot. Mounted to the overall size of 15" x 17.25".
7. 1p, measuring 13" x 15", Norfolk, Virginia, dated October 14, 1761. Indenture between Joseph and Frances Williams and Thomas Talbot. Mounted to the overall size of 15.25" x 17.25".
8. 1p, measuring 14.5" x 18", Norfolk, Virginia, dated August 19, 1768. Indenture between Richard and Hannah Knight and Alexander Gordon. Repaired with archival backing.
9. 1p, measuring 17" x 15", Norfolk, Virginia, dated August 18, 1820. An Award of Merit presented to Miss Mary Whiton.
Most with flattened folds. All have varying degrees of toning, foxing, soiling, and dampstaining. A number of documents have tears and paper loss, repaired with archival material. Overall very good.
