This cotton 1880's/1890's Mennonite baskets quilt is hand and treadle machine pieced and hand quilted, with vibrant red, teal green and cheddar fabrics and an unusual concentric configuration. The quilt came out of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It measures 72" X 72" and is in excellent, never washed condition, with the occasional small age spot and no wear. There is very subtle, nearly imperceptable mellowing of the teal green in places (see photo). The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall. There are straight line, grid, and cable designs quilted throughout at 6-7 stitches to the inch. The back is white, the hand stitched binding is teal green, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light.
