Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A splendid ensemble of 27 hand-carved jade beads of sizeable forms boasting mottled hues of sage, olivine, pistachio, celadon, and pine green, all strung on a modern strand to be wearable. Gently graduating toward the center of the strand, the stunning beads display conical, cylindrical, ovoid, tabular, and barrel shapes. The largest bead hangs from center as a pendent and showcases an ovoid form with a shallow central groove, as well as deep shades of midnight and hunter greens with natural, cream-colored striations. A dazzling combination of ancient fashion and modern style! Size (of necklace): 46" L (116.8 cm); Size (of largest bead/pendant): 4.4" L x 1.8" W (11.2 cm x 4.6 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

All beads are ancient and strung on modern strand to be wearable. All have expected nicks and abrasions commensurate with age, wear, and exposure to the elements. Otherwise, all are very nice with clear forms and light earthen deposits.
