Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A gorgeous necklace strung with dozens of ancient greenstone disc beads, 6 high quality gold beads, and a jade pendant. The strand contains a symmetrical arrangement of teardrop shaped greenstone beads and 95% gold (equivalent to 22K+) sheets rolled into tubular beads before the central pendant. The pendant is a rectangular profile carved from a single piece of semi-translucent jade in a deep green-blue hue of a stylized jaguar head flanked by serpents. The recessed drilled eye cavities and openwork coils exhibit visible remains of a red pigment, perhaps cinnabar. The ancient beads are strung in modern times on a wire with a golden lobster clasp as a wearable and stunning accessory.
