This is a lovely American coin silver mote spoon, circa 1860. It has a pierced, fluted bowl, and a long, twisted handle with a spear point end. This spoon is 10 inches long and the bowl is 1 3/8 inches wide. It weighs 17 grams. The word "COIN" is marked on the back, followed by a large period. The mote spoon has a rich and interesting history. These long handled spoons were were used to remove floating tea leaves from a cup. The pointed tip was used to remove clogged tea leaves from a tea pot’s spout. This tea accessory is highly collectible and useful!
