George Look (1854-1917) was the proprietor of the Gem saloon in El Paso, having come to Texas from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Gem, like several other Old West saloons, is remembered as the site of a famous gunfight. On April 4, 1885, one of the saloon's patrons, former lawman William Polk Rayner, was mortally wounded by Robert Bates "Cowboy Bob" Rennick. Rayner had been drunkenly harassing patrons before he confronted Rennick. One of the witnesses to the murder was none other than lawman Wyatt Earp, who testified about the event the next day.
