Scarce original vintage aquatint titled "A Private of the 5th West India Regiment," by J. C. Stadler, from Charles Hamilton Smith's "Costume of the Army of the British Empire, According to the Last Regulations," published Jan. 2d, 1815 by Colnaghi & Company. A black private of the 5th West India Regiment, his musket with the bayonet fixed at support arms, in uniform with green facings and blue trousers, cross-belts across his chest and a shako on his head, two other privates behind, one leaning on his musket and the other in his forage jacket, fishing boats drawn up on the shore and islands beyond with ships on the sea. Clean with tiny bit of toning to plate. Image size: 8.75 x 10.25 (10 x 14 paper)
