Description
**Originally Listed At $500**
Pre-Columbian, Central Peru, Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. An intriguing polychrome vessel of a spherical form set on a flat, discoid foot, with a slender, conical neck. The vessel depicts a mystical male figure with wild gazing eyes, an elaborate mustache, a goatee, and a checkered apron at his front. Accenting features are delineated in black pigment, though the apron also features hues of ochre, blue, and cream. A pair of petite circles are slightly set apart from each other in a diagonal fashion within each individual checkered register. At its top, a series of black triangles crown the head of the figure, creating a zigzag pattern around the rim. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but this figure's gaze has a thousand stories tell. Size: 4.75" Diameter x 8" H (12.1 cm x 20.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010
