UNIQUE ALS SUICIDE LETTERSuicide letter (one of three known) by Galvan (Major William Galvin de Bernoux) to Clarkson (Major Matthew Clarkson), dated July 24, 1782, "Adieu my dear friends. Life is become a burden too heavy for me..... The pistols are loaded. Adieu for the last time..... You will not my dear Clarkson call my honour in question - My torments are more than I can bear - be indulgent to me - Forgive me", 4pp, folio, fold lines, stains, small hole (1" x 1/4") and top corner missing (2" x 2") on one page, Galvan was a volunteer French officer from Dominica, who was dismayed by money problems and love (possibly the Widow Atten), Matthew Clarkson (1758-1825) was an aide to General Benjamin Lincoln, (from an estate which included papers from Benjamin Lincoln of Hingham, Massachusetts).
