Mexican American War Commemorative Painting Celebrating the end of the War, Circa 1848
This watercolor collage depicts an allegorical Mexican female figure offering wreaths of peace. Her bow and quiver are laid down in the symbol of surrender. While the Mexican flag is in a position of surrender, with an American canon on top and the American eagle ascendant on a column with raised bayonettes. This scene takes place in a marvelous desert landscape filled with cactus and fauna. The collage is comprised of fabric, watercolor pigment, and exotic bird feathers. This piece is in a superb museum-quality silver and gold gilt frame.
