Ancient Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan/Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery jar with a squat foot, a piriform body, and a flared rim. The orange-slipped exterior features a pair of abstract avian figures with plumed feathers and short beaks, and linear motifs segregate both creatures with red, black, and green hues. Size: 3.375" W x 3.375" H (8.6 cm x 8.6 cm)

Condition
Restoration to area of lower body, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks to rim, body, and base, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
