Two volumes of Langley's San Francisco Directory published in 1880 and 1889. The 1880 volume contains a Progress of the City report which includes information about the city's commerce, finances, registration of votes, real estate, public buildings, hotels, theaters, transportation, water supply, schools, libraries, hospitals, banking, etc. The bulk of both volumes is an alphabetical list of residents, their occupations, and their addresses. Both volumes also contain information about government officials, fire departments, churches, schools, societies, and military. Business advertisements are on the covers and throughout both volumes, including one for Wells Fargo in the 1880 volume. 9.25 x 6, fair condition, but both volumes have missing or detached binding.
