Description
Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Yupik people, Thule / Pre-Contact Period, ca. 10th to 18th century CE. This is a superb example of a fishing hook that is perfectly intact, hand carved from walrus ivory. The hook has an integral loop at the top for a line, and a classical curved shape and rounded tip. The surface has darkened to a deep brown on the interior curve, and the rest is smooth and pleasantly tactile from age and use. Size: 1.85" L x 0.875" W (4.7 cm x 2.2 cm)
This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.
