Description
American Typewriter Co. Model 1 manufactured at ?265 Broadway, New York, circa 1893. Patented by Louis Philippe Valiquet, Halbert the rights were sold to Edwin Payne, president of the American Typewriter Co. . Payne stated that Valiquet could not market the typewriter effectively despite an initial price of just $5. After improvements and better marketing under Payne's direction, the price was raised to $6. In overall VG condition retaining 95+% of original finish and pinstripe. Works well but platen is currently not turning Wood base in VG original finish with no splits or cracks. Metal cover in VG condition with 9+% of original finish, just a couple of small dings, but the hand lettered< The American, name in beautiful shape.
