Description
(1786 - 1875) Third child of Alexander Hamilton, War of 1812 veteran, close friend of prominent contemporary politicians such as Henry Clay, John C. Calhoun, James Monroe, and Zachary Taylor. Lot of six signed items, including five A.L.S.s, each 1p. 8vo., New York, some undated but likely all 1860-66, addressed to American artist Daniel Huntington (1816-1906). Content is mostly friendly correspondence, yet two are regarding an original portrait of Hamilton's grandfather Phillip Schuyler (1733-1804). Sections from the two letters read in part: '...The only original portrait of Genl. Schuyler that I know of is in the possession W. Geo. L. Schuyler...I handed yesterday to Mrs. Huntington an original portrait of General Schuyler, the property of my brother in law George...As it is the only original portrait of Genl. Schuyler that I know of...I would ask you to take good care of it and when it is copied send it to me...' Last is a postal envelope addressed to Huntington bearing Hamilton's initials 'A.H.J.' Conditions vary, yet overall good condition. Six items.
