Description
Ancient Greece, Corinth, Corinthian culture, ca. 600 to 575 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery aryballos of a spherical form with a round but stable base, swollen walls that taper to form the shoulder, a discoid rim, and a squat strap handle. The beige-ground vessel is decorated with wide linear bands in red-brown pigment on the body, a register of dark spots around the rim, and concentric bands of red-brown pigment atop the rim. Size: 2.6" W x 2.8" H (6.6 cm x 7.1 cm)
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Dr. Edward D. Joseph collection, acquired in Athens, Greece in the 1970s

Condition
Possible repair and restoration to areas of rim and handle, but expertly performed and nearly invisible if present. Minor abrasions and fading to pigment on surfaces, with light encrustations. Nice preservation to surface pigment. Old inventory labels beneath base.
