Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE. A fascinating pottery jar presenting a globular body, a corseted neck, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. Enveloped in a rich hue of mauve, the charming vessel boasts liberal remains of an incised decorative program consisting of hundreds of overlapping, vertical dashes along the exterior. Note the rich marine deposits of salt, shells, and barnacles that splatter its surface - wonderful souvenirs from centuries spent on the ocean floor! Size: 7.1" Diameter x 5.1" H (18 cm x 13 cm)
