Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A set of 2 hand-built blackware pottery vessels from the ancient Chimu culture. First is a stirrup vessel resting atop a flared foot with a pair of spouts, 4 figural panels filled with raised stippling, and an arching handle with a human and a human-headed lizard meeting on top. The larger vessel depicts a tall female figure with bulging breasts, raised stippling across her body, and a puffy face beneath a flared headdress that doubles as the vessel's rim. Size (figural jar): 6.8" W x 9.75" H (17.3 cm x 24.8 cm); (stirrup vessel): 6.9" W x 6.25" H (17.5 cm x 15.9 cm)
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Stirrup vessel has chips to tip of one spout as shown. Both vessels have abrasions and encrustations, with softening to some finer details, and fading to black pigment in scattered areas. Nice preservation to overall form and some finer details.
