Description
Carte-de-visite (CDV) photograph of Major Flavel Clingan Barber, a native Pennsylvanian who fought for the Confederacy as an officer with the 3rd Tennessee Infantry. Barber was captured at Fort Donelson 1862, but was ultimately released. He was able to return to his regiment and served in positions of increasing authority until he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Resaca, Georgia in 1864. Barber, who married his wife on the evening before he departed for war, was only 34. His diary has been published as the book "Holding the Line" (2013).
