Description
Fascinating “Head Quarters, Department of South Carolina and Georgia” special orders issued from Charleston in 1862. The orders, numbered 255 in ink, concern the attachment of artillery batteries to various brigades within the department, The document itself was pre-printed, and the actual text of the order was written in ink. Of note is that the paper this form was printed on is English-made blue “blockade paper," a term used for paper imported through the Union blockade that sought to prevent supplies from arriving in southern ports. The orders are in good condition, with some mild edge wear (primarily along the top edge) and original fold marks. The order itself is neat and legible.
