Interesting note written by President Ulysses S. Grant on February 12, 1877, to his secretary, Charles C.Striffin. Unsigned, the note is written in pencil and concerns getting a message to the Secretary of War about reducing the sentence of a “Captain Morgan” before the Secretary leaves Washington for a few days.
Strifflin docketed the with his initials and the date. In typical Presidential fashion, Grant seems to be interested in pardoning "Captain Morgan" weeks before he left office.
