This hand-signed land grant from 5th U.S. President James Monroe in the territory of Illinois dates January 24, 1818 to James Williams, who was a Private in Greens Company of Artillery from the War of 1812. The signature is bold and legible. Affixed to the document is the seal of the General Land Office. This parchment paper document was originally tri-fold and is in excellent condition. It measures 10" tall X 13" across.
