Two-page 1855 document from Lincoln County, Kentucky that serves as receipt for $6145.64 and slaves delivered to Thomas B. Montgomery per the direction of “Mr. A. Whitley’s” last will and testament. The slaves were formerly owned by Whitley and his wife, Evaline, who re-married Montgomery. They are named in the document: “Forrest, Martha and her children, Amelia, Belle, Shelby, an infant boy not yet named, and a negro man named John.”
