Description
Roman Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A skillfully free-blown glass oinochoe with aqua hues and a graceful form that sits on a flat base. Condition
Stable fissures to body. Surface wear, nicks, and abrasions commensurate with age. Faint pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Earthen encrustations and silvery iridescence throughout.
