Title: The TORMENTED No. 2
Place Published:
Publisher:Sterling [Indicia: Sterling Comics, Inc.]
Date Published: September, 1954
Description:
G/VG (3.0). Cover and pages miscut at a slight diagonal, several chips to spine, top staple pulled, cover detached at bottom staple. Off-white pages. Cover: Mike Roy. Art: Bill Ely, Mike Sekowsky. GPAnalysis: A 3.0 sold for $537 in February 2019 (an uncommonly strong result, as a 2.5 sold for $298 in April 2019 and a 2.0 sold for $225 in January 2020).
Severed head served atop cake (a twist familiar to fans of George Romero's 1982 horror-comedy Creepshow); Satanic carny barker turns sad sacks into sideshow freaks; in an inversion of the usual "angry mob" scenario, a janitor is murdered by an angry mop; Mike Sekowsky's rape-revenge-gone-wrong story, "Honeymoon Horror," is a rehash of "Revenge" (Witches Tales #21, October 1953), which was itself a retread of Johnny Craig's classic "Murder May Boomerang" from Crime SuspenStories #1 (October-November 1950).
