African-American "Folk Art" Pictorial Sampler
c. 1900 Turn-of-the Century, Vintage African-American Folk Art Style Pictorial Sampler, Original Frame, Very Fine.
Original vintage African-American Black Folk Art Style Pictorial Sampler measures 16.5" x 17.5" and is housed in a 17.75" x 18.75" simple, inexpensive black painted wooden frame (no date or glass). It is said to have come from an old Massachusetts farmhouse and the owner could not provide the history of this piece.
This African-American Folk Art style sampler has interesting imaged motifs including a "Freedom Key", a "Heart", a "Rope Climbing Monkey", plus "Black Children Playing Ball", another group of children "Playing with a Monkey," and several other interesting decorative elements including a "Hunting Scene" at center with the initials "N M G" above. The colors in this large size sampler are vibrant and the condition is very good overall. This Sampler is an excellent example and would be excellent for hanging on display.
