A choice quality Cabinet Card Photograph measuring about 6.5" x 4.25" with a reverse side period inscription that reads: "Genl McClellan, Genl Getty and party". It depicts General George McClellan and his wife, with General George W. Getty and his wife along with other military officers and distinguished civilian men and women posed on and around a Civil War period piece of artillery. That cannon and others are seen scattered about what appears to be the parade grounds of the Artillery Academy. We believe that the Photograph was taken during the time that General Getty served as the Commander of the Academy or perhaps later (in 1879) when he served on the Schofield Commission - the 1879 Board of Conduct which exonerated former Civil War V Army Corps commander Major General Fitz John Porter and reversed Porter's War period Court Martial. Generals McClellan and Getty (and their wives) are seen at the far left end of the group " McClellan in civilian garb and Getty wearing his uniform. A number of younger officers and civilian women round out the "party".
