Description
A rare Worcester creamjug, circa 1753
Of lobed pear shape with a delicate scrolled handle with a high thumbrest, finely painted in colours with a standing Chinese figure holding a parasol, flanked by a fence, a willow tree and flowering plants trailing around to the reverse, where there are three small insects, an unusual formal border below the gilded rim, 8cm high, workman's mark in red

Illustrated by Ray Jones, The Origins of Worcester Porcelain (2018), p.518. A similar jug although without a border, from the John Alchin Collection was sold by Bonhams on 15 December 2020, lot 11. The border is closely related to that on a vase in the British Museum illustrated by Aileen Dawson, The Art of Worcester Porcelain (2007), p.43. No other creamjug with this border appears to have been recorded.
