A rare Worcester spoon tray, circa 1758-60
Of lobed hexagonal shape, painted in famille rose colours with the 'Valentine' pattern, a pair of billing doves standing on a quiver of arrows and an altar with hearts on either side of a garlanded breadfruit tree, a lambrequin border pencilled in purple below the rim, 14.8cm wide

This pleasing pattern was originally designed by Piercy Brett, copied onto Chinese porcelain for a presentation service made for Commodore Anson in 1743. A teapot in this pattern from the Sir Jeremy Lever Collection was sold by Bonhams on 7 March 2007, lot 46. For a sparrow beak jug painted with the same pattern see lot 369 in this sale.
