Item Details

Description

Early James K. Polk (1795-1849) signed document detailing a legal case from the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, Lawrence County, Tennessee, dated October 1822. The case, in which Polk acted as an attorney, describes a lawsuit between George Grisham and Aron Angling with Tyron W. Yancy over a matter of $100 and an additional $50 in damages. Signed "Polk atty." with additional signatures, lower right. Additional inscriptions, en verso. Ink inscription by Tom Price, Museum Curator at President James K. Polk Home and Museum, referencing Wayne Culter's publications of Polk Correspondences, en verso of frame. Housed under glass in a black wooden frame. Document: 12 1/2" H x 7 3/4" W. Framed: 13 1/2" H x 8 3/4" W.
