James Polk DS One Day Before Leaving the Presidency
A 1p partially printed document signed by 11th U.S. President James K. Polk (1795-1849) as "James K. Polk", on vellum measuring 14.5" x 18.5", Washington, March 3, 1849. Countersigned by U.S. Secretary of War William L. Marcy (1786-1857) as "W. L. Marcy". Intact paper-covered War Office seal affixed at upper left. Some lightening to handwritten text and signatures, still fully legible. Flattened folds; light creasing; toning; else, in very good to near fine condition. Accompanied by an RR Auction Certificate.
President Polk appoints Theodore Talbot as "First Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Artillery". Polk signed this commission a day before Zachary Taylor was sworn in as president.
