AMERICAN / BRITISH CANVASWORK PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK, wool and silk on linen canvas, completed in tent stitches, depicting a woman wearing a dress with apron, walking in a hilly landscape setting with flowers and foliage, a stag deer walks behind her and a butterfly flies above it, background with a group of buildings or houses in the distance. Housed under glass in a later molded wood frame. Mid 18th century. 16 1/4" x 13 5/8" sight, 18" x 15 1/2" OA.

Condition
Good to very good visual condition with light toning, fading, and fugitive color to thread, scattered losses and holes mostly small in size with some mends including to woman figure, frame with some wear, surface scratches, probably later black painted finish having some flakes and chips. Not examined out of frame.
