Canada.- Du Calvet (Pierre) Appel à la justice de l'ètat; ou recueil de lettres, au Roi, au Prince de Galles, et aux ministres; avec une lettre à messieurs les Canadiens,. . . ⁂ Du Calvet, Canadian trader and campaigner. He emigrated to Canada in 1758 and settled at Quebec, where he became a successful trader and administrator. His place as Justice of the Peace was terminated by the Quebec Act of 1774. In 1780 he was arrested on suspicion of treason, and imprisoned for more than two years, by the Governor, Sir Frederick Haldimand. Upon his release, he went to England in order to obtain justice from the governor, but was drowned in a shipwreck on his voyage to London.
