Rare Image of Famous Photographer “Mathew Brady”
(MATHEW BRADY), Civil War-era Photographer.
1863 CDV of Secretary of State William Seward, Mathew Brady & Others, by W. J. Baker, Utica, NY, Choice Extremely Fine+. 2.4” x 4” sepia-toned CDV photograph of Seward, a rare photo of Brady, and a group of foreign ministers at Watkins Glen, New York--probably from the autumn of 1861. Seward is on the right side of the photo, Brady stands at the center, wearing a white suit. The backstamp is from W. J. Baker, and verso also has a sticker: “Entered according to act of Congress, by W. J. Baker, in the year 1863...” Minor stain at the bottom margin. An interesting, extremely rare image of Brady himself!
