Description
Mary & Abraham Lincoln Evocative CDVs
A collection of two cartes de visite featuring an Abraham Lincoln and a superb Mary Lincoln image taken by Mathew Brady.
The collection includes:
CDV of Mary Todd Lincoln in her striped evening dress, New York, NY with Brady Stamp. Mary accessorized the dress with a set of jewelry made with seed pearls as well as with flowers: as a corsage, as a headpiece, and carried as a small bouquet. While the Library of Congress dates the photograph as being from the years 1855-1865, the presence of these jewelry pieces further solidifies this claim as The Library of Congress also holds a receipt for their purchase by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. Scattered foxing, rounded corners, evidence of prior mounting due to matte burns, "Mrs. Lincoln" written in pen on the front, else fine. 2.375" x 3.75.
CDV of Abraham Lincoln dressed to the nines and seated with his signature gaze. A fantastic portrait of Lincoln after the famous Brady 1864 image made iconic by the $5 bill. No backstamp, dealer's notes on verso, slight foxing, creasing not affecting the fantastic image of Lincoln, else fine. 2.375" x 4.
