Description
Fine grouping of twenty copies of 'Navy Yard Salute', issued by the Puget Sound Navy Yard, 13 of the issues are war-date, the balance post-war, each edition being between four and eight pages long, 14 x 10 in., and photo illustrated. Content includes a terrific Aug. 17, 1945 victory issue showing MacArthur pointing with battle scenes all about him, a V-E Day issue showing soldiers' mothers, heavily war-damaged vessels under repair, much war news including reports on the SARATOGA, TICONDEROGA, NASHVILLE, SUWANEE, and BUNKER HILL, visiting dignitaries, shipyard events, etc. Overall very good to fine. Puget Sound Naval Shipyard was established in 1891 as a Naval Station. During World War II, the shipyard's primary effort was the repair of battle damage to ships of the U.S. fleet and those of its allies, in which its role was crucial.
