Item Details
Description
Elvis Presley's Owned and Driven 1973 Lincoln Continental "Last" Limousine W/Title, Letter From Priscilla Presley, and Extensive Documentation (Museum Exhibited) - This 1973 Lincoln Continental limousine was personally owned and driven by Elvis Presley, and is the last limousine that the King ever purchased. The limo was purchased by Elvis in December, 1975 after he saw the vehicle in a movie, and because the automobile was built especially for the big screen, Elvis set out to purchase the one of a kind limo the next day. Elvis was chauffeured around in this stunning automobile and even drove it himself on occasions, before he personally gave the vehicle to friend and Stamps Quartet member J.D. Sumner. There are multiple photos of Elvis in this limousine, including photos of Elvis chauffeuring himself on an evening in which he came upon an accident in Memphis on March 26, 1976 where he stopped to investigate with local law enforcement officers. The limo was given to J.D. Sumner one evening when he found himself stranded at Graceland without transportation, along with keyboardist David Briggs of the "Nashville Cats". David stated that he was offered the car but has turned it down due to the potential implications of receiving such a generous gift from Elvis, and J.D. jumped at the opportunity of taking the vehicle. J.D. took the limo home that evening and later sold the vehicle to collector Mike L. Moon in the early 1980s when he sold most of his personal collection. This vehicle was exhibited and displayed as part of the Mike Moon collection for many years, and will come with extensive documentation which documents the full chain of ownership including a copy of the title in Elvis' name, copy of the title in J.D. Sumner's name, current title, registration paperwork including an original application for title and registration in Elvis' name, insurance application and documents, bill of sale and lease documents, Canadian import and customs forms, newspaper articles and more. The paperwork will also include a letter from Priscilla Presley. Due to the amount of global press this artifact has already received, we would be willing to assist in a post auction PR campaign for the winning bidder if they so choose as we expect that the sale of this piece will be a worldwide story. Please note: This item is located in Colorado and shipping will be at the expense of the buyer. The auction will help facilitate shipping arrangements, if necessary.
