1773 Georgia Twenty Shillings Note Fully Signed & Issued Large Format Size PMG Graded Choice Extremely Fine-45
Georgia. 1773. Twenty Shillings. Fully Signed and Issued. Printed in Red and Black. Large Format. PMG graded Choice Extremely Fine-45.
Fr. GA-48. This vivid, colorful, red and black typeset printed note, is from a rare "single denomination" of Twenty Shillings issue. There are no other denominations. Only a small number of these notes were authorized issued and this example is both fully issued and carries all seven signatures. All seven signers signatures appear very clear, well written and legible, including; N(oble) Jones (boldly embellished vertical signature) and the signature of his son, N(oble) W(imberly) Jones (seen at the bottom of the left row of signatures, he would later go on to serve as a Delegate from Georgia to the Continental Congress in 1781-82), James E. Powell, William Young, Joseph Clay, Thomas Shruder and Sam(uel) Farley complete the signatories. This attractive large format note was once folded to four quarters, likely to fit into a Colonial era wallet. Its PCGS VF-35 holder notes "split" which is seen at the top and bottom of the vertical centerfold, as shown. The blank reverse side is very clean with one small notation "old 12:0-0" and is completely clear otherwise. A similar quality note is illustrated in the current (2008) 5th Edition of Newman, page 137 for this Georgia currency issue. The only value provided records the sale price of an Unissued "RM" "Remainder" graded (raw) Very Fine, which sold in May 2004 at $2,990 and Newman only recorded a Remainder. The last example offered by EAHA was July 24, 2021, Lot 15, also fully signed and issued PCGS VF-35 which sold for $4,200. This current note is fully numbered and with all seven required signatures to fully complete and emit it officially into circulation. Overall, this typeset current note is attractive with superior color and eye appeal, in excellent quality being 10 Points higher that our prior example that was fully signed and issued.
