November 12, 1825-Dated, Partly-Printed Document Signed, Regarding Revolutionary War Pensions, Integral Postal Leaf, Bardstown, Kentucky, Very Fine.
Rare original Partly-Printed Document Signed, (John P. Duval) in print, measures about 7.5" x 12.5", 1 page, Bardstown, Kentucky. Intregal address leaf. This Document in printed letter form is sent to a Revolutionary War Veteran to help collect his Government Pension for a fee ... the price: 25% of the money and 33.3% of any land. This specific Letter is sent to Lieutenant Josiah Wellington of Massachusetts Continental Line. The letter gives the amounts he would be entitled to, in part:
"The commutation pay of a Lieutenant who served to the end of the war, or was supernumerary after 21st Oct. 1780, is $6,000 and if living, a pension of $320 per anum from 3rd March, 1826, you are a pensioner under the act of 18 March 1818 at $240 per annum from April 11-1818 aged 72."
If Mr. Duval could get even just a few veterans to use his services, he would have made a tidy sum. Boldly printed in deep black, some reinforced edge splits at folds, minor paper loss at right edge where the wax seal was affixed when opened not affecting any text. Circular Post Stamped in blue, "Bardstown, KY - 13" with a "25" cent manuscript postage rate. The first we have offered.
