Description
each silk on linen, comprising one example featuring nine alphabet and numeral rows segmented by horizontal bands of decorative stitching with partial signature in the second row, "CBL aged 8 183[6]" in the fourth row, and initialed "CBL" in the last row, below signed "CAROLINE [B] LAWRENCE" in red, lower third featuring a pair of flower bouquets with on being unfinished; and the other example with six alphabet and numeral rows segmented by horizontal bands of decorative stitching, lower half featuring various pictorial motifs including floral wreaths, flower urns, and two birds, all encompassed by a scrolling floral vine border with two sides that appear to be unfinished. Each housed under glass in modern frames. 19th century. Signed sampler 11 1/2" x 16 3/8" sight, 17 1/4" x 22 1/2" OA.

Signed sampler in fair to good visual condition with scattered holes and losses, some stains, some thread with fading/fugitive color; other sample in very good visual condition with some stains and light toning to linen, thread with some fading/fugitive color; frames with some wear, surface scratches, and flakes. Not examined out of frames.
