Sturm (Johannes) Collegium experimentale curiosum..., 2 parts in 1, first edition, half-title, 4 folding engraved plates (of which 1 torn with paper repairs), numerous wood-engraved illustrations, woodcut initials, small marginal damp-stain to initial ff., browning, spotting, contemporary calf, recased with small repairs to spine ends, gilt, housed within cloth chemise and slip-case, morocco spine, [Krivatsy 11539], 4to, Nuremberg, Wolfgang Mauritius Endterius, 1676-85.

⁂ First edition of Sturm's presention of: his experiments relating to hydrostatics, pneumatics, optics and magnetism, as well as his descriptions of recent inventions such as, an airship (using four spheres made of very thin copper foil tethered to the craft, the illustration showing a man steering with use of an oar), a diving bell, a microscope, an air pump, and a barometer. Sturm was professor of mathematics and physics at the University of Altdorf. A second part was published in 1685 and they often appear together.
