Wood Artifact from Gen. R. E. Lee’s HQ During Battle Of Gettysburg CAG Encapsulated.

Wood swatch taken from the world-famous Thompson House better known as General Lee’s Headquarters during the Battle of Gettysburg. Encapsulated by CAG, measuring 2.375'' x 3.375''., Gettysburg, PA, July 1-3, 1863,

Accompanied by a copy of a certificate of authenticity from the Gettysburg Museum of History along with an additional packet of provenance.

The Thompson house was an excellent location for Robert E. Lee’s headquarters. It was very accessible, next to the main road coming into Gettysburg from the west, on which the rest of Lee’s army would arrive after July 1. The house was situated at the top of a ridge and had an advantageous view in all directions. Additionally, it was at the center of the Confederate lines.

The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, by Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War.
