Description
Wood Swatch from Gen. R. E. Lee’s HQ During Battle Of Gettysburg
Wood swatch, 1.5" x .5", Gettysburg, PA, July 1-3, 1863, taken from from the world famous Thompson House better known as General Lee’s Headquarters during the Battle of Gettysburg. Encapsulated by CAG, measuring 2.375'' x 3.375''.
The Thompson house was an excellent candidate for Robert E. Lee’s headquarters. It was very visible, next to the main road coming into Gettysburg from the west, on which the rest of Lee’s army would arrive after July 1. The house was at the top of a ridge with an excellent view in all directions, and was at the center of the Confederate lines.
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, by Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War.
Accompanied by a copy of a certificate of authenticity from the Gettysburg Museum of History along with an additional packet of provenance.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
