AN UNUSUAL BLUE OVERLAY AND OPAQUE WHITE GLASS OVIFORM 'CHILONG' SMALL VASE
Wheel-cut Qianlong four-character mark in a square and of the period
The vase of slightly asymmetric and flattened oviform shape with tall cylindrical neck, the overlay carved with four sinuous chilong ascending and descending around the body of the vessel, with finely detailed hair-markings to the legs, three intertwined and carved primarily to the slightly flattened side, with the tone of blue darkening where the overlay is thickest, and thinning to a paler blue color to the other side of the body where the fourth chilong coils downward, the short circular foot ring carved from the blue overlay.
