A WOOD FIGURE OF A STANDING SHINTO DEITY
Kamakura period (1185-1333), 14th century
The standing figure carved from a single block of wood representing perhaps Inari Ōkami (God of Rice) or Ta-no-kami (God of the Rice Fields and Harvest) dressed in flowing robes with both hands joined at the waist supporting a sacred jewel, traces of gesso remaining in the crevices, set on a modern wood stand
With a later wood tomobako storage box
18 7/8in (47.9cm) high, figure only; 20 3/4in (52.7cm) high overall
