Edward Everett the Great American Civil War Era Orator at
1860s Civil War Period, Carte de Visite Photograph of Edward Everett, published by Case & Getchell, Boston, Choice Extremely Fine.
Edward Everett (1794-1865). American Politician and Educator from Massachusetts, a Whig, served as U.S. Representative, and U.S. Senator, was the 15th Governor of Massachusetts, also as the U.S. Minister to Great Britain and United States Secretary of State, taught at and served as President of Harvard University. Everett was one of the great American orators of the ante-bellum and Civil War era. He is often remembered today as the featured orator at the dedication ceremony of the National Cemetery in Gettysburg in 1863, where he spoke for over two hours, immediately before President Abraham Lincoln delivered his most famous and historic (two-minute), Gettysburg Address. A very sharp, clear and impressive Photographic image on its original crisp card, with imprint on the reverse. This is a particularly scarce CDV image showing him in a full length standing pose.
