Description
During WWII, the need for American troops superceded the traditional draft conscripts. Congress passed special legislation to allow women to serve in four units: the Women's Army Corps (WAC), the Navy Women's Reserve (WAVES), the Marine Corps Women's Reserve, and the Coast Guard Women Reserves (SPARS).This well-illustrated poster highlights a brave woman representing each of these special branches of the military. The program was groundbreaking and paved the way for women to serve in the military in peacetime.Harry Steele Savage (1900 - 1970) was an American illustrator most known for his children's books. His typical style was radically different than this poster - most works feature a pen-and-ink style reminiscent of Kathe Kollwitz or Rockwell Kent. The illustrative and colorful style used in this poster demonstrates Steele Savage's broad range of talents. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster has been archivally backed onto linen and is in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
