Northwestern Europe, Probably England, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely collection of 13 nickel-silver segments to decorate a horse harness, each comprised of links and horseshoes. The segments have two chains that connect the three horseshoe pendants together. Some of the sections also contain horseheads in profile. The backs of several segments include loops on the verso for securing the ornaments to a harness or riding tack. All is displayed in a vintage wood and glass case with brass latches. This could be a beautiful display piece for an equine enthusiast! Size of most segments: 4" L x 1" W (10.2 cm x 2.5 cm); case: 17.5" L x 11.6" W (44.4 cm x 29.5 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition
Not wearable. The segments are loose and not connected as shown. Losses to links and bending of forms. Areas of green and dark patina. Red foam backing is decolored and actively flaking. This can easily be replaced. Displayed in a glass and wood case.
